The 2025 EDAMBA Summer Academy is for 15-20 selected doctoral students in the management and business fields. EDAMBA Summer Academy aims to

 

  • Introduce state-of-the-art theories and methods thgrough lectures that are of key importance to docoral syunts in business administration.
  • Provide a forum for dialogue on research paradigms and methodologies in management and business research.
  • Enable participants to present their research, emphasizing its position within the broader business and management landscape.
  • Support young researchers by offering motivation, guidance, and a sense of intellectual identity in today's research landscape.
  • Foster scholarly networks among emerging researchers across various fields of management and business research.

 

 

PROGRAMME

 

The program will focus on the the presentations and discussions of participating doctoral students’ theses. Lectures by invited faculty will highlight key issues and introduce themes that will be further exploired in interactive workshops, where all participants expected to contribute. Additionally, evenings are available for meetings and consultations between faculty and participants.

Each participant will present an overview of their thesis to a panel of invited faculty, emphasizing challenges and problems related to research methods and theoretical developments. The goal is to develop a deeper understanding of issues related to the implicit or explicit philosophy of science within their research. Both faculty and students will actively engage in the discussions.

Held in the relaxed setting of the St. George Lycabettus Hotel in Athens, the program offers ample opportunites for informal conversations and networking, as well as a chance to exlore the vibrant city of Athens.

 

5 ECTS are assigned for participation in the EDAMBA Summer Academy.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS AND EVALUATION

 

Entry requirements

  1. A written and updated abstract of their doctoral research (limited to 5-7 pages), addressing the research problem in relation to the existing literature, discussing the methodology and presenting initial empirical results (if applicable).

Learning outcomes

Upon successful completion of the course, the doctoral student will have achieved the following learning outcomes:

 

Knowledge and understanding

  • Gain insight into the ideals and challenges associated with interdisciplinary business and management research.
  • Acquire knowledge of key quantitative and qualitative methods applicable in business research
  • Discuss and analyze the challenges to desk-rejections in academic writing.
  • Discuss and exemplify future management skills required in the digital economy.

 

 

Competence and skills

  • Critically discuss and analyze PhD theses, considering aspects such as structure, theory, research methodology, and publication strategy
  • Situate ones own PhD project within the context of the course material and lectures.

 

 

 

Individual evaluation

  • An individual oral presentation of the doctoral thesis, highlighting relevant methodological and/or theoretical issues to be discussed.
  • Active participation throughout the Summer Academy
  • Individual feedback from faculty and participants regarding the individual presentation.
  • The learning outcome is evaluated through a submitted written synopsis paper, due two weeks after the end of the Summer Academy, reflecting upon the course materials and lectures.

 

 

The written report will be reviewed and assessed by the course organizers.

 

Certification

Upon successful completion and approval of the above requirements, a Certificate of 5 ECTS will be awarded.

 

 

APPLICATION PROCESS

 

  1. Register online 
  2. Submit a letter of recommendation, CV and an abstract or summary of your doctoral research*.
  3. Application Deadline: March 17, 2025
  4. Successful applications will be approved by email by March 24, 2025 and confirmed on payment of the registration fee.  
  5. Payment deadline: March 31, 2025.
  6. Successful applicants will submit a final copy of their abstract or paper by May 31, 2025. 
*Candiates should submit an abstract of their doctoral research, outlining the research problem against the existing literature, discussing the methodology and showing some initial empirical results (if applicable).  Guidelines for submission: all abstracts are limited to 2-8 pages including cover/title page, body of paper, references, tables, figures. Length depends on the stage in research.

 

 

 

ACADEMIC FEES

  • 950 EURO for students from EDAMBA Member Institutions
  • 1,500 EURO for students from non-EDAMBA member Institutions

  

Fees include participation to the seminar, the seminar documentation, 4 nights accommodation at the 5 star St. George Lycabettus Lifestyle Hotel in central Athens, lunches and 1 group dinner. Hotel accommodation will be provided for 4 nights from Sunday July 20, 2025 to Thursday 24, 2025 (Thursday night not included). Academic fees are exempt from VAT.

 

 

Cancellation policy: Cancellations made before May 31, 2025 will be reimbursed minus 20% of the total fee. No reimbursement will be possible after that date.

 

OBJECTIVES:

 

The EDAMBA Summer Academy to analyze key challenges facing management and business research in a rapidly global landscape. These challenges have significant implications for both the economy and society.

The academy will provide introductions into fundmental issues in management and business research, examining how these issues relate to broader developments in the business and social sciences and intellectual thought on business and society.

 

Key topics in research methodology and theories of business and social science will be presented and discussed. As business and management research evolves, it is playing an increasingly central role in shaping organisational systems and redefining value creation. Doctoral education is essential to these developments, and doctoral students play a crucial role to play in shaping the research landscape of the future.
